Transmogrification

Process or result of changing from one appearance, state or phase to another. Transformation.

Glass is unlike other commonly used materials in the art world. Metal is found as metal in the earth, clay is dug as clay, and wood grows as wood. Glass only becomes glass after common and abundant materials are exposed to intense heat.

No longer is it just coarse silica sand. It transforms into a medium that can be transparent or opaque. Glass may be poured, blown, cast, re-melted, cut, polished, and broken on it's way to becoming art.

Since it's beginning, glass has undergone constant transformation. As in medieval times when alchemy attempted to change everyday lesser materials into something precious and collectable, we venture into the studio in an attempt at transforming lesser materials into objects that provoke thought and please the eye.
